Climbers 4 MS

Climber's Unique Challenge

Three climbers from Guernsey are aiming to achieve a climbing first. Chris Freeman, Pat Abram and Kevin Kreckeler will be attempting the three peaks challenge, not once, but twice, and they are aiming to complete all 6 climbs within 38 hours. Along the way they are hoping to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society and for the Guernsey Cheshire home. The planned date for the start of the Challenge is 2nd of September.

Climbing the highest peaks in England (Scarfell Pike) Scotland (Ben Nevis) and Wales (Snowden) , the team will have to cover 52 miles by foot, which is equivalent to two marathons.  They will travel by road to get to the base of each peak, and the travelling time of around ten hours for the 475 road miles will mean they will have just 28 climbing hours to achieve their goal.

The three climbers met when working in the police force and are no strangers to climbing challenges, having climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in 2005.

Earlier this year they met with Sir Ranulph Fiennes (picture). Sir Ranulph not only shares their enthusiasm for climbing but also has dedicated a number of his challenges to raising money for the MS Society. Sir Ranulph proved to be a real motivating force as Chris Freeman explained, " Sir Ranulph was really interested to hear our plans and any thoughts we had that age might be a barrier to us (the average age of the climbers is 52) disappeared having spoken to him. Here was a man who was 63 years old, who was on his way to climbing the north face of the Eiger, and who had only a few years previously, run seven marathons in as many days. We are working hard at our fitness and are now just eager to get climbing"
